About Mrs. Amanda

Hi there! My name is Amanda Matheny and I am so happy to be working with your children this year! This is my 16th year of teaching and I have loved every minute of it. I have been married to Jay Matheny for twelve years, and we have a "fur child" named Clark and a little boy, Grayson. We bought a house nine years ago just outside of Mayfield, which is only eight minutes from school... on a good day!

Although I was a Carlisle County "Comet" from age five to eighteen, I was always a Fancy Farm girl on the inside! My parents still live where I grew up, right past the Graves County line, which is just minutes from Fancy Farm Elementary. I knew that teaching was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, even when I was just a child. You see, my father was a teacher and then eventually became a principal, also at Carlisle County Middle & High School. Yes, my dad was my principal! Guess who could never have a test or bad grade without Daddy knowing about it?

When it was time for college, I started out at Paducah Community College, now known as West Kentucky Community and Technical College. After two years, I transferred to Mid-Continent University to complete my Elementary Education degree. It was a sign of where I was supposed to be when I was placed at Fancy Farm Elementary School for my student teaching. After teaching at other neighboring school districts for the first two years of my career, I was offered a job at Fancy Farm.

Over the past sixteen years, I have been a busy girl! Jay and I got married shortly after I moved to Graves County and we had a long-distance relationship/marriage for a while because he was finishing law school in Ohio at the time. Since then, he has graduated and is practicing law in Paducah. I have completed two Master's degrees, my first in Early Childhood Education and my second in School Administration. I guess you could say that I am following in my dad's footsteps! Maybe one day...

Until then, I have the pleasure of working with your children! I hope that we will have a great school year and please know that if you need anything, you can call or email me at anytime. Communication is the key to your child's success!
